Alternatives to Lose It or Lose It
Lose It or Lose It is all about protecting your current self from your future self. At the moment that you set weight loss goals, you have tons of motivation to do what it takes to reach them. But what about pursuing those goals over time? You know that your future self might not do very well at sticking to the weight-loss plan when faced with overwhelming temptation, so, in the moment in which...

Cad-buried!
It might have something to do with the Cadbury Creme Egg Milkshake that Randy invented and drank last week, but sadly he missed his goal of 203.2 pounds by five whole pounds. And when that happens, we pick a name and send them our money. Brad Sarafinas, of Sarafinas Home Improvement happened to be in the office hanging a pull-up bar for us. Brad reached into the Big Silver Bowl of active...

Your Future Self is a JERK!
Lose It or Lose It helps you protect your current self from your future self. Wait, what? When people sign up for a ten-week plan, their current self is admitting that they can’t trust their future self to stick to a weight loss plan. They need help holding their future self accountable. That is why I created it. I would decide I wanted to lose weight, work hard for two to three weeks, then...

Go Streaking with Streak.ly!
One of the things I’ve discovered over the last 16 months of using and running Lose It or Lose It is that sometimes, just showing up every day is enough to move you forward. I have been thinking about starting a Lose It or Lose It Lite where the only goal is to weigh yourself every day and if you don’t, the site would reveal your weight to THE WORLD. It is a similar concept to the...

How To Re-enable Your Facebook Connection
Randy just finished the arduous process of migrating Lose It or Lose It from Rails 2 to Rails 3. It took a lot longer than he thought, because the hard part turned out to be re-writing all his automated tests (moral of this story: don’t write tests?) One of the things that Randy updated was the way that Facebook connects to LIOLI. This means that even if you were connected to Facebook, as...

Lock It or Lose It -- Browse Our Site Securely If...
Ever since Lose It or Lose It was launched, you would sign up, log in, and edit your account using a secure connection to our servers. This prevented people from eavesdropping when you would submit your sensitive information.  However, until just now, we would not allow people to use a secure connection on the rest of the site. Now you can! You can browse all of Lose It or Lose It with an...

Hi there! We have had some requests to be able to see the detailed charts for past plans, so we added it! We hope it will be an encouraging thing to see how well you have done so far. You can get to them by clicking on the “Detailed Chart” link in your profile: You will then see the past plans (if you have them) listed below your current plan. Clicking on the date will show you the...

Starting Today, We're Using "Delta-Based" Goals
Pretty soon after we launched Lose It or Lose It, we realized that if you miss a goal, it’s easy to start getting deeper in trouble. Let’s say you’re trying to lose two pounds a week, and your starting weight is 200 pounds. Your first weigh-ins go great: you start the plan at 200 pounds, then weigh in at 198, 196, and 194 pounds. But the next week, instead of making your goal...

Congratulations Tinta on your FLAWLESS VICTORY
User Tinta just completed his Lose It or Lose It plan and made his goal on all ten of his weigh-ins. We’ve started calling a FLAWLESS VICTORY. Not only that, but he made it look easy, with nothing but a laconic smiley-face on each post. Great work, Tinta! Your official, can’t-be-purchased Lose It or Lose It FLAWLESS VICTORY Nerd Merit Badge is on the way! We love it when folks make...

Voice Reminders With Twilio!
Every Lose It or Lose It user gets a daily reminder: “STEP AWAY FROM THE CHEESEBURGER!” we exhort our users. “DON’T CONCENTRATE ON THAT TWENTY POUNDS, just concentrate on the two pounds you need to lose for your next weigh-in!” Users can get their reminders either through email or SMS. At least, they could until we discovered that Clickatell, had been accepting our...

Not Considered Beautiful Anymore?!
The site Beautiful People just kicked out 5000 members for gaining weight over the holidays (Mashable and Techcrunch). If you are no longer considered beautiful, don’t worry, we’ll still love you and welcome you with open arms! If you use our Lose It or Lose It to lose some weight, they may just take you back. Shut up! Announcing your plans makes you less... →
Derek talks about how stating your plans makes you less likely to accomplish them because in your own mind, that is the same thing as actually doing it. Makes sense… however, I think you should announce your plans to lose weight then use Lose It or Lose It to stick to it!

Thank You AWEsome Beta Users!
I wanted to take this time to thank the handful of beta users that helped iron out some of the rough edges of Lose It or Lose It before it was released to the public. They had to deal with all sorts of weird things like Having to enter multiple usernames/passwords just to use the site Limiting their accountability friends to those of us already using the site Being the first ones to say what...

Why Lose It or Lose It is Going to Make You Less...
Today I am launching my latest labor of love, Lose It or Lose It! I created Lose It or Lose It because I wanted to be less fat and help others be less fat! It is a collection of tools that I realized I needed to lose weight and keep it off. You have to understand, I have been fat all my life. I needed something where I could decide up-front I wanted to change and then be punished above and beyond...
